OCENS GRIB Explorer offers unprecedented access to the power of GRIB data. GRIB (short for GRIdded Binary) data is a unique form of weather and ocean data. GRIB Explorer sports a simple interface operating in synchrony with the streamlined data access engine of OCENS WeatherNet; GRIB Explorer levels the playing field. Now any user, from day sailors to coastal cruisers and fishermen, can acquire and put to use the weather and ocean insights offered by GRIB data. Now with 3D Viewing you can view data like 500mb and sea surface heights the way they are meant to be viewed – in 3D!
Please note that this program is not designed for use with Windows 95, 98 or Windows ME. This program requires Windows XP, Windows 2000 or later operating systems.
You will need your SERIAL NUMBER (from the inside of your DVD case or in an activation email from OCENS) as well as your HARDWARE FINGERPRINT at this time. Then visit http://www.ocens.net/globalstar/gribreg in order to activate your software for permanent installation.
To obtain permanent access to GRIB Explorer:
Install software by downloading from
http://www.ocens.net/globalstar/installer.htm
or contacting admin@ocens.net.
Open GRIB Explorer and you’ll get a message informing you that the software is copy protected and you must obtain a Serial number as well as a hardware fingerprint in order to activate the software. The serial number can be obtained from OCENS activation staff. You can contact them at admin@ocens.net if you would like to purchase OCENS GRIB Explorer.
Click on Enter key. This will give you your hardware fingerprint, please take note of the hardware fingerprint as well as your Serial number for your GRIB Explorer program obtained from OCENS activation staff.
Go to http://www.ocens.net/globalstar/gribreg
and click on Software Activations.
Fill out all of the fields, input a valid email address and select your version
of GRIB Explorer Software.
Input the serial number obtained by OCENS Activation staff.
Input the Hardware Fingerprint you obtained in step 3 above, As long as a valid
email address was entered above you will get a confirmation email stating your serial
number and key for input in the GRIB Explorer software.
Now, open GRIB Explorer again and press Enter Key.
Here you can input the Name and Key combination from the website (it will appear
on the screen when you press submit). You will get a message letting you know that
the key is valid and has been stored.
Helpful Hints for GRIB Explorer
You must obtain the GRIB chart or GRIB file from an outside source - GRIB Explorer is simply viewing software to be used specifically with WeatherNet and its access to over 20,000 weather data products.
Interface
The GRIB Explorer screen is simply a blank Gray screen with icons and a menu. You
must use WeatherNet or another source to obtain GRIB files that you can read with
GRIB Explorer.
Configuring GRIB Explorer
Click on View>General Options to enter the various options of configuring your GRIB
Explorer program.
To configure your GRIB Explorer to work with your GPS
Click on the Position Tab under View>General Options. You’ll need to select the
COM port that the GPS is attached to. Then select the Baud Rate specific for your
GPS (this can be found in the technical notes associated with your specific GPS).
You’ll want to select all of the NMEA sentences and then press the Test GPS button.
This will let you know if the GPS is properly configured. To activate the GPS click
on GPS Disconnected in the bottom right hand corner of GRIB Explorer then click
Activate GPS.
Home Location
Click the Home Location tab under View>General Options Here you can select the home
location as well as the Latitude and longitude; Height and Time Zone. By checking
the Display local date and time… box you will get local date/time information stamped
on the GRIB files you download. This is configured by the Time Zone selected above.
Image Display
Click on Image Display under View>General Options Here you can select how you open
your GRIB data files. Either to fill the entire window; width or height of the screen
or you can select the Actual Size of the image downloaded. You will also have the
option to select the Time/Date stamp to be displayed on the files downloaded and
what location you’d like the time/date stamp to be.
Scales & Units
Click on Scales & Units under View>General Options Here you have the option of selecting
the way you’d like your information displayed.
Map View
By going to Chart>GRIB Options you can change to the Map view that you’d like.
Simply hover your mouse over the Map panel and it will show you the selections available
for use.
